City of Philadelphia takes a page from Google

The city of Philadelphia has just approved new “street furniture”! Hooray! I love the opportunity to sit on random benches and use public trash receptacles.
In fact - I really do think this city needs more public trash cans, I always find myself with an empty Starbucks cup with nowhere to throw it. Even better with the new proposal - it’s going to be funded via advertising! That’s right, good ol’ Web 2.0 is taking effect and the taxpayers won’t bear the costs of these new items.
From the Inquirer…
City officials are now weighing proposals from three companies to design, install and maintain - for the next two decades - hundreds of new bus shelters, newsstands, trash receptacles, public toilets and benches.
In return, the winning contractor will get the chance to sell advertising in places that so far have been ad-less.
Good work fellas. Now how about hiring some people to empty the trash cans?
