An artist's rendering of the Cira Centre South project and another plan, called Penn Connects, that will create athletic fields, open space, offices and links to Center City.

Although this is an artist’s rendition (which ALWAYS look better than the real thing) - it looks like we’re going to get some new skyline eye-candy in the city very soon.

The tower, Cira Centre South, will house commercial stores, a hotel, and residential space, and go a long way to cleaning up the area immediately surrounding the 30th street station and the post office.  Early word is that the Post Office annex is going to be toppled to make way for the new structure.

The 14-acre Cira Centre South project, which includes a 40- to 50-story office tower on Walnut Street and a 25- to 30-story residential tower on Chestnut Street, will be developed by a partnership of the university and Brandywine, which is based in Radnor.

The project is expected to be completed by 2012.  Hopefully the construction on JFK will be done by then…
