amtrak train The amtrak blog has a great post about the feasibility of commuting between Philadelphia and New York on a regular basis.

I must say, my experiences on the Acela to Penn Station have been quite positive. I would argue that the cost is exorbitantly high, so if you aren’t in a position where your company will pay, or at least subsidize, the cost, I’m not sure it’s worth it.

The train ride itself is short, maybe an hour and five minutes.

I’ve also had good experiences taking the Keystone/Harrisburg service (can be had for $35-50 one-way depending on the time of day you book). The Acela, on the other hand, runs in the neighborhood of $120 one-way. Also worth nothing, the Keystone line takes maybe 5-10 minutes longer. The monthly passes recently incurred a substantial price increase making the service a bit more unattractive, in my opinion.

If this is an option you are looking to pursue, then it is definitely worth a full read. I might also add the blog is a great resource for fellow commuters or business travelers.

Comment: “You give a positive impression of the commute Philly-NYC”
Response: Yes, Philly-NYC commuting via Amtrak I thought was perfectly fine. Lots of other professional do it though less now since a monthly pass is expensive (over $1,000/month).
